Manchester United extended their lead atop the English premiership to 6 points on Saturday with a 2-1 road victory over Middlesbrough. Louis Saha redeemed himself with a 19th minute penalty kick. Chelsea had the weekend off and will not play another league match until the 10th, when they play Arsenal.
Boca Juniors are still in search of the final death blow for their latest league championship, which would be their third straight.
The Mexican Apertura league final has been set: Toluca vs. Chivas. Chivas drew 0-0 with Club America to advance with a 2-0 goals aggregate. Toluca knocked off the defending champion Pachuca 1-0 in the second leg of their two leg series. The first leg was a draw, 1-1. Pachuca will be traveling to Chile for the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana finals against Colo Colo, held on December 13th.
The University of North Carolina Lady Tar Heels won their 18th National Championship Sunday, defeating previously undeafeted Notre Dame 2-1.
The University of California - Santa Barbara Gauchos picked up their 1st ever NCAA National Championship, defeating heavily favored UCLA 2-1 on Sunday.
