DC United Announce Sale

DC United announced the sale of the club from AEG to DC United Holdings this morning. DC United Holdings paid $33 million in cash for the operating rights to the club. DC United Holdings is headed up by Victor B. MacFarlane, who becomes the first black owner in MLS and is the first minority owner of a Washington, D.C. sports franchise.

I can probably speak for damn near everyone when I say, "Thank God this is finished." The sale of the club has been one of the worst soap opera's in the last few seasons. As it was the large stumbling block towards getting other issues resolved, such as new player signings and a proper stadium deal. Now we should be getting the stadium on track, as well as a jersey sponsor and several South American signings.

Tom Soehn should be gathering the troops in the next week to begin their training to prepare for the upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup series with Olimpia of Honduras which United will host the second leg on either February 28th or March 1st. As several United players are currently in camp with the USMNT, namely Boswell, Perkins, Namoff and Gros, our fitness issues shouldn't be as bad as some other clubs would have.

I can't friggin wait for the season to begin. Bring it On!

Do you think that they will announce the South Americans this week? It's getting close to when they should start training.

I would say that next week is the best time. That gives the new owners time to get up to speed with the finances and such. I think that they mentioned that the training camp would open either the 17th or the 22nd, which gives them time.
