FA Cup Recap
Yeah, I know that this is a day late, but considering the DC United sale and other things, I didn't get to this until now. So Arsenal dumped the title holders Liverpool, out with a 3-1 victory at Anfield. Arsenal will now face Bolton in the next round. Liverpool truly only has the Carling Cup to look towards of any hopes of picking up any silverware this season. However, that plight might have the same exact fate as their FA Cup run, as they face Arsenal today in their Carling Cup Quarter Final match up.
Manchester United debuted Henrik Larsson on Sunday during their FA Cup clash with Aston Villa, with Larsson wasting little time in making his first match in a United jersey a memorable one, scoring the first goal of the match. Milan Baros leveled the score for Aston Villa and just as Sir Alex Ferguson was resigned to the idea of a reply, the United Super Sub Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picked up the go ahead goal in the 90th minute, all be it from a gaff from Aston Villa goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly.
Chelsea romped in a 6-1 victory over Macclesfield behind a Frank Lampard hat trick. Chelsea will move on to meet Nottingham Forest in the next round.
Beckham contract due next week?
Real Madrid are setting next week as the deadline for David Beckham to decide if he will accept their two year contract extension or not. This is pretty much a test for Beckham, as it is really a test to see if he will remain committed to trying to rejoin the England squad, which is hinged on him staying in Europe. Not to say that his only other option would be to move to MLS, but despite the rumors, I really don't see Beckham moving back to the EPL and not returning to Manchester United. Rumor has it that Inter Milan have expressed interest in Becks, but that has even less of a chance.
Reyna riding the Red Bull afterall?
I mentioned this a while ago, and now it seems to be moving forward. Current Manchester City midfielder, Claudio "I can't spell his name" Reyna seems to be packing up his family in a move back to the Big Apple. I would expect to have the announcement in the next two weeks. That gives City the weekend to get through their EPL clash with Bolton, then deal with Reyna's situation. He should be a Red Bull player by the end of the month.
US U-20 World Cup Qualifying Roster announced.
Thomas Rongen announced the U-20 roster for the USA yesterday. Not that many surprises, except Michale Bradley being left off the roster, due to his club refusing to release him. I am ok with this as long as he still plays in th eU-20 World Cup, assuming that we qualify. Here is the roster -
