Some ideas for the USSF

Here are some ideas for the USSF, as they have just under 4 years to prepare for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

1. Send an A Team to the 2007 Gold Cup. Get that Championship wrapped up and the berth in the 2009 Confederations Cup secured. Playing in Africa, as pointed out, has not been something the USSF has been doing lately, so a chance to play in a competitive tournament in South Africa a year before the World Cup is hosted there, is a golden opportunity.

2. Send a group of some vets and some sorta green guys to the 2007 Copa America and see who can handle the pressure. Play competitive football and see if the Quarter Finals is possible.

3. Get more competitive opponents for friendlys, and have them in hostile venues in the US. Playing Mexico in LA might seem like a home game for Mexico, but when we beat them 2-0 in the Rose Bowl before 60,000 Mexican fans, the 20,000 USA fans will be louder. Playing Columbia in Miami would be just as difficult.

4. Play overseas more. Playing in Europe and South America more will get the players better international experience. If they need to, go to Slovenia if needed, but get more overseas experience. Play Nigeria in Kaiserslautern, Germany, it would be a good match. Offer to play Peru in Lima, it would be more difficult than playing Jamaica in Cary, North Carolina.

Those four points alone would get the USSF started in a good direction for 2010.
